Description

We cannot believe we are celebrating 10 Years of hosting concerts on Smith Lake! We are thrilled to bring back three artists who have special places in our hearts:

Liz Longley, Barnaby Bright and Maggie Rose!

We wanted to invite back everyone who has played on our stage but we quickly realized we would have to host a 4 day festival.  We actually considered it!

Liz Longley is the reason we have a concert series.  She was the first artist to say, "yes" and we then built our waterfront stage.  We will never forget the first soundcheck.  She sang, "People Get Ready" and we had instant full body chills.  We knew it was going to be the beginning of something special.  Liz has been an integral part of introducing us to almost every artist who has played here.  One of the best gifts that has come from hosting this concert series is our friendship with Liz. Many of you know her by now and if you don't, you are in for a treat.

Liz is best known for her stop-you-in-your-tracks voice.  She is  an accomplished singer-songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. With her deeply emotional, punch you in the gut music, Liz is hands down one of the best songwriters you will ever hear.  She is a Berklee College of Music graduate and has worked alongside 5-time Grammy nominated producer, Paul Moak, on her 6th album, Funeral For My Past.  The journey of her self-release made music industry headlines when her devoted fanbase raised over $150,000 to help her purchase the rights to and independently release the album.  Liz became the #4 most funded solo female musician in Kickstarter history - a story covered by Billboard Magazine.  Liz just completed recording her 8th record in the studio with Paul and we will be hearing some of those new, unreleased songs.

Barnaby Bright is an alt-Americana trio with very contemporary influences that reflect their geographical journey from Brooklyn to Nashville to Kansas, while calling on Nathan’s Oklahoma roots and distant relation to Merle Haggard. The band has accumulated a dedicated following that feeds on their ability to spin storytelling into sonic treasures- a BB show will take audiences on a ride through love songs, murder ballads and deeply moving, relatable themes. The mostly commonly uttered phrase at the end of a show seems to be, “that was a spiritual experience.”

Nathan’s virtuosic acoustic guitar & banjo playing and Becky’s effortless soaring vocals over the drone of the harmonium are pushing the boundaries of today’s indie folk landscape.

The duo spent a decade touring and making records before recently adding Carmen Dieker to the band. The blend of their three part harmonies and Carmen’s haunting fiddle and violin-playing add an element to shows that fans of the band never knew they had been wanting.

On a personal note, Becky and Nathan are two of the nicest humans you will ever meet.  It has been 8 years since they last played here and we could not be more excited to welcome them back!  We are looking forward to meeting Carmen and hearing them as a trio for the first time..  We will be requesting a duet with Becky and Liz.  Their vocals blending together are stunning and exquisite.

Maggie Rose is a FORCE.  From the first note we heard her sing, we were hooked and knew we wanted to invite her to Smith Lake.  She has become a crowd favorite and we have received many requests for her return.  Smith Lake has become one of her happy places.  She refers to our lake house as "The Vortex" and has found peace and inspiration from her time spent on Smith Lake.  In fact, one of the lyrics in the title track of her new record, No One Gets Out Alive - "stay awhile here on the swing and let's pretend we'll always be together" was inspired by our actual porch swing!

Hailed for her "multi-genre talents" by Billboard and deemed a "star" by Rolling Stone, acclaimed singer-songwriter Maggie Rosehas released her ambitious new album No One Gets Out Alive. Hearkening back to early '70s Laurel Canyon, the music deals in both dark and uplifting themes- disillusionment in relationships, ageism, female empowerment and living in the moment, among them, with Maggie's big, soulful voice taking centerstage. Maggie successfully straddles the worlds of pop, rock, soul, Americana and folk, unencumbered by genre specifics. Recorded with a dream team including members of Jason Isbell's 400 Unit, Alabama Shakes and Gregg Allman's band, the record was produced by GRAMMY-Award winner Ben Tanner, mixed by Bobby Holland and arranged by conductor Don Hart (Phish, Lyle Lovett). A respected fixture of the Nashville community, Maggie has played the iconic Grand Ole Opry over 100 times and marquee festivals including Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, and Newport Folk Fest. A true road warrior, she has shared the stage with the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Heart, Joan Jett, Eric Church, Gov't Mule, The Mavericks, Fitz & The Tantrums, St. Paul & The Broken Bones and The Revivalists among others.
