For America's 250th Birthday, The Community Center presents a special celebration.
Join us on Wednesday evening, July 1 for a special screening of the award-winning movie musical "1776," which brings the signing of the Declaration of Independence to life with humor and drama.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The evening includes light bites, sweet treats, Patriot punch and colonial reenactors. The film begins at 6:30.
Set in Philadelphia in the days leading up to July 4, 1776, you'll see the all too human side of John Adams - "obnoxious and disliked," Franklin - mastermind behind the scenes and Thomas Jefferson who delays writing the document for a reunion with his wife. Together they try to persuade the American colonies to support a resolution on independence and a single "nay" vote will forever end the question of independence.
All of which shows it's not easy creating a new country, but it makes for a spectacular movie musical!
Nominated by the American Film Institute as one of the "Greatest Movie Musicals," reviews said, "It is warm with a life of its own; it is funny, it is moving," and "The perfect movie for everyone, no exceptions of any kind for any reason."
Tickets are $25. Proceeds support Community Center programs and activities.
