The Alaskan Scottish Club is a non-profit organization established to promote the Scottish culture, heritage and teachings to the people of Alaska. We achieve this through events, workshops, concerts and other social gatherings in Alaska throughout the year.
The Gaelic word for “Clan” is children, but is best translated as “family.” Originally, each clan was made up of the descendants of one man and his children. Today, a Clan is a social group that comprises a number of families derived from, or accepted as being derived from, a common ancestor. Almost without exception, that core is accompanied by an added number of dependent and associated families who have either sought the protection of the clan at some point in history or have been tenants or vassals of its chief.3
In addition to the VIP parking pass, complimentary 2-day event tickets for two (2) Clan representatives, Friday afternoon Ceilidh, and participation in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, registered Clans will also receive:
- A dedicated space for your tent (12’ x 12’);
- Option to display representation of your clan in lieu of a tent at the Clan Hall;
- A special introduction during the Opening Ceremonies;
- Awards for the “Best Tent/Display” and “Best Show;"
- An optional 3-5min slot on the stage to share information about your Clan, Family or Society.
A fund has been established in order join the ranks of our more prestigious counterparts across the country, and to promote the growth of our own event. It belongs to the Families, Clans, and Societies who participate in our annual Gathering to provide support for the Great Hall, awards, and communal needs. A flat $15.00 registration cost includes everything detailed above.
Due to COVID-10 Mitigation plans, there will not be an official parade of Clans this year, but each will be given the spotlight and introduction at opening ceremonies.
