Strawbery Banke Museum is a 10-acre campus dedicated to bringing 300+ years of history to life, from Indigenous history to the present day, in the Puddle Dock neighborhood. Tour historic houses on their original foundations, meet engaging costumed roleplayers, watch traditional crafts demonstrations, and explore historical gardens and landscapes.
EXPLORE HISTORIC HOMES AND BUILDINGS:
Tour an elegant mansion, working-class homes, a colonial tavern that welcomed Patriots and Loyalists, a cooper's shop, and a 1940s corner store.
HEIRLOOM GARDENS AND HISTORICAL LANDSCAPES
Spread across nearly 10-acres, a dozen gardens showcase period designs, rare flowers, and heirloom vegetables that bring to life four centuries of garden history and local foodways. Gardens range from colonial kitchen gardens to a high Victorian landscape, hothouse and children's garden, and a WWII Victory Garden. Visitors can also explore elements of the Indigenous presence in this landscape.
UNIQUE EXHIBITS
Exhibits center around the restoration and preservation of the historic buildings and items from the collections that showcase the museum's ability to preserve the past and interpret the history of Portsmouth and the unfolding story of the United States.
