Description

Since the early 2000’s the advancement of technology in the entertainment industry has made it easier and cheaper for independent writers, publishers, and filmmakers to realize their dreams, manufacture their artistic goals, and successfully share that final product with their specific audience no matter where they might be located. Recent computer technology, digital software, equipment, and social media are allowing more and more people to generate artistic pieces that look professional enough to be marketed and distributed to the general public on a large scale.

Agents, publishers, editors, professional film crews, marketing agencies, brick and mortar printing houses, and international distribution centers are no longer necessary components for succeeding in the entertainment industry. This can be viewed as both a blessing and a curse. We will look into that dynamic during this discussion.

Just because it has been printed between two shiny covers and can be bought or downloaded through Amazon does not make a piece of poetry or prose literary. Similarly, just because a film can be viewed through Prime Video or Roku doesn’t guarantee it to be an enjoyable viewing experience.

We will look at how some independent filmmakers and writers have taken good advantage of the ever-developing tech available to all who know how to find it and utilize it to their advantage. We will focus on their successes, how they were able to achieve those, and perhaps capture some of the lightning in a bottle to apply to ourselves. Expect to learn, discuss, debate, and laugh with me.

Brian DuBois will be our speaker for this discussion. Brian is a high school English and Creative Writing teacher in New Jersey for over 25 years and also teaches at a community college designing and presenting seminars for its continuing education program. Currently, Brian has created content on horror literature, noir fiction, and transgressive fiction. Another passion for Brian is his love to write both fiction and non-fiction and he is the owner/operator of the DuBois Family Haunted House for over 19 years!
