This event is hosted in collaboration with Crellin Park Day. Attendees may meet directly at Crellin, or at PS21 and walk as a group to the park. Bring a chair or a blanket to kick back and relax at the park!
PS21 returns to Crellin Park Day with an interactive program featuring 846, a retelling of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. 846 reimagines Stravinsky’s seminal work in our current day USA. The 1913 score depicts rituals celebrating the advent of spring, after which a young girl is chosen as a sacrificial victim and dances herself to death. 846 reflects upon our “everyday” filled with love, loss, appropriation, fear, and judgment, and interrogates our nation’s compulsion with sacrificing black bodies in order to thrive.
