Piano Sonata No. 1 Op. 1
5 Piano Studies, No. 4 and 5 on Bach
Variations on a Theme by Paganini, Book 1 and 2
Faculty member at the Curtis Institute of Music as well as the Roosevelt University in Chicago, Meng-Chieh Liu has established himself as one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, both as a performer and as a teacher. This evening he will be offering an entire Brahms program, including Variations, op. 21, no. 2; Sonata, op. 1; Two Etudes after Bach; and Variations on a theme by Paganini, op. 35. Being the ultimate traditionalist and Bach admirer, Brahms produced many works that were either inspired by Bach or made arrangements based on the older master's music. Tonight's program will be an incredible feast as we sample many different tastes from the work of a single great composer.
