CASE Consultants International invites Carl Schreck, Ph.D., a research scholar with NC State University's North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS), to tell us what he knows. Dr. Schreck explores the climate record of hurricanes and investigates tropical weather and its impacts around the globe. One of his passions is assessing and reducing uncertainties in the historical records of tropical cyclone best tracks. Hurricanes have long posed significant risks to many areas of the USA, but in recent years, major storms like Harvey, Florence, Matthew and Dorian, resulted in particularly devastating impacts from strong winds, coastal storm surge, and inland rainfall and flooding.
Climate change impacts are felt across the entire socioeconomic spectrum; whether urban or rural or wealthy or impoverished, all can be impacted by more severe storms, sea level rise, extreme heat, or any other event resulting from the warming of the planet. Dr. Schreck joined NCICS in August 2010 after completing his Ph.D. at the University at Albany. He serves as a Research Assistant Professor with the NCSU’s Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences and as an Adjunct Associate Professor with NC A&T. See Carl Schreck's full biography.
