━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A Certain Kind of Light tells the story of several young adults at a house party, as each attendee becomes rapidly consumed by excess and hedonism. In the hours following this event, they are forced to confront their many vices in increasingly urgent, and ultimately surrealistic, contexts. This world premiere is written by local playwright Joey Urreta.

Please Note: This performance contains cigarette smoke and flashing lights.

From the Fringe is The Ringwald Theatre’s bold new initiative dedicated to spotlighting the next generation of theatrical voices. Known for our daring and provocative productions, The Ringwald now turns the spotlight toward up-and-coming playwrights and creators with this small-batch performance series. Curated with a taste for the unconventional, From the Fringe champions fresh, fearless works that push boundaries, challenge norms, and crackle with urgency. These limited-run productions offer emerging artists the opportunity to test the limits of their creativity in an intimate, experimental setting—where raw stories come to life, risks are rewarded, and fringe becomes the forefront.

This is theatre at its most immediate, most intimate, and most Ringwald.

The Ringwald's mission is to engage diverse audiences through fresh, risk-taking theatrical experiences. Seasons will include productions focusing primarily on newer works, previously un-produced scripts, and innovative interpretations of seasoned classics.

The Ringwald opened our doors to our Ferndale location at 9 Mile & Woodward in May of 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy and quickly became a mainstay of Detroit’s theatre community.

In a newly-formed partnership with Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center, The Ringwald will open their new home inside the center in the fall of 2021 after temporarily shutting its doors at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite a successful 14 year residency on Woodward and 9 mile.
