This Jane’s Walk, taking place in West Buckhead, focuses on themes of environment, history, and culture.

Join Jodi Mansbach — urban planner and Chair of Chattahoochee NOW — for a walk at the site of the City of Atlanta’s first public access point to the Chattahoochee River. The Standing Peachtree Greenspace is adjacent to the City’s main water intake at the site of what was a Muscogee Creek Confederacy trading center at the juncture of Peachtree Creek and the Chattahoochee River. The beauty and history of the river is so great here that it seems barely diminished by the surrounding sewage treatment plant, asphalt plant, landfill, railroad, and busy traffic overpass.

You will walk from the parking lot adjacent to a lovely hardwood forest down a mostly shaded path to reach the confluence of the Peachtree Creek and the Chattahoochee. Along the way, we will discuss some other surprising connections to Atlanta’s history. And you will get a glimpse of how this location is set to become the starting point for the new Camp + Paddle Trail 48-mile pathway that will snake beside the river from North Atlanta down to McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County.

With the goal of creating more access to the Chattahoochee River in underserved areas, Chattahoochee NOW has been working for over ten years with the City, the Trust of Public Land, and many other organizations to put Standing Peachtree back on the map.

About Jane's Walk

Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival honoring the legacy of urbanist, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs with free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities.

The festival promotes civic engagement and encourages leaders and participants to share stories about their communities and use walking as a means of connecting with their neighbors.

About the Leader of This Walk

Jodi Lox Mansbach is a creative and strategic leader who inspires people and organizations to re-think what’s possible. She brings her strong facilitation skills to groups looking to create brave spaces where people can come together for deep collective listening, understanding and to make small and bold powerful shifts that can transform organizations and communities. She also delights in creating physical spaces which she does as Principal of PlayLark Studio, part of the Living Playgrounds Collective that re-imagines playgrounds as nature-based environments where children can thrive.

Jodi worked with the City of Atlanta to launch Atlanta City Studio, its first pop-up urban design center incubating new ideas about the design of the City and engaging the community in the process. Previously she was Vice President of Development and Construction at Jamestown, a real estate investment and management company. As an urban planner, Jodi was involved in the firm’s New Urbanist development and adaptive reuse projects including Ponce City Market where she led the design of Skyline Park, the rooftop entertainment project. At Jamestown, Jodi also served as Sustainability Director and started and ran the Jamestown Charitable Foundation.
