Accounting & Taxes for Independent Artists

On Cue Professional Development, Session Six

Sandra Jackson, CPA CGA provides a look at how to keep track of your budget, manage your expenses, and deal with the CRA.

Sandra Jackson received her CGA designation in 1992 in Toronto while working for what is now the Canada Revenue Agency. She moved home to Saskatchewan in 1997 and worked with a bookkeeping company in 1998 for a tax season and loved it so much she bought the business! Sandra has grown the company from 2 full time employees (who are still with her 23 years later) to 8 full time employees and a student from Sask Polytech during the tax season. They service about 1,000 individuals for personal tax returns and about 500 businesses including proprietor and corporations. We are a full service accounting firm including payroll, bookkeeping, personal and corporate tax returns and Review Engagement statements. Sandra has facilitated classes for individuals considering starting their own business including how to organize the business, the importance of bookkeeping and tax implications including income tax and sales taxes. Many of these students became clients! She has also facilitated tax discussions with various groups including arts organizations, seniors, and CNIB members.
