Description

The ACLU of Louisiana has produced a critical mini documentary highlighting the current attack on voting rights and Black voting power. The documentary offers a glimpse of impacts on the ground in Louisiana in the aftermath of Louisiana v. Callais, a case the Supreme Court decided earlier this year which gutted the Voting Rights Act.

The premiere will feature a screening of the ACLU of Louisiana’s mini documentary, followed by a moderated panel discussion featuring Big Freedia and Alanah Odoms, executive director of the ACLU of Louisiana, and other invited civic leaders or community stakeholders. The discussion will center around the attack on Black voting power and how it overlaps with challenges the bounce music community has faced. The evening will close with a short live performance by Big Freedia, giving the event a signature New Orleans send-off.

FAQ

  • The showtime listed for the event is the time the event starts. Doors will generally open an hour before the listed show time unless otherwise listed.
  • We allow pets during the day, but not at night for music (anything after 7pm). Service animals are always allowed
  •  Please do not park in the Broad Theater parking lot. We have a parking lot for The Broadside and plenty street parking available on Toulouse and Lafitte. If you would like to be escorted to your car, please ask the Sheriff on duty. You may also park in the Auto Zone parking lot if they are closed. 
  • Our outdoor space has a variety of seating options such as benches, picnic tables, chairs, and stools. If you require a seat for health reasons or disability, please ask a staff member and they can provide you with a chair.
