A NC Fishing License is required for this event. To apply for the free disabled adult fishing license, please email licenses@ncwildlife.org. This may take some time, so it is an option to purchase a resident 10-day NC Inland Fishing license for $9 to be covered for the tournament. If you need to do this, please make sure August 20th is within that 10-day period. CLICK HERE to purchase that option.
Buncombe County Recreation Services is excited to host our first annual Adults with Intellectual Disabilities Fishing tournament on August 20th at Charles D. Owen Park. Participant check-in will begin at 7am near the footpath between the two ponds. Please look for our popup tent and friendly staff. For those who do not have their own fishing equipment, we will have equipment available to borrow for the day. Please let us know in your registration if you or one of your guests will need adaptive fishing equipment to accommodate physical disabilities that might hinder operating a fishing pole or reel.
The tournament will begin at 8am and fishing will end with everyone back at the registration tent by 12pm. Throughout the tournament we encourage you and your participants to bring your catch in a provided bucket with water for the fish to the registration tent so that we can measure your fish before you release it back into the pond. Once the fishing part of the tournament ends at 12pm, we will then announce prize winners for categories such as longest fish caught, shortest fish caught, and most fish caught, etc. We will also have raffle giveaways for a guided fishing trip and a waterproof dry bag.
