SUMMARY:  Join us as the 2021 AIA West Jersey Board of Directors are sworn in by the new 2021 AIA NJ President, Joshua Zinder. Following the Inaugural Ceremony and business portion of the meeting, we will have our featured CEU presentation: Resilient Design for At-Risk Communities presented by Jason Kliwinski, AIA, LEED Fellow/Faculty.

The effects of climate change continue to be felt and are worsening. Rising sea levels, increased frequency of severe storm events, more extreme weather variations and extended seasons for insects, wildfires and droughts are some of the more pressing issues facing communities and design professionals today. How architects and engineers respond to these fluctuating and changing conditions today can make the difference in health, safety, and welfare long term. At risk communities such as coastal areas and underprivileged regions will struggle the most dealing with the effects of climate change. Resilient design can help mitigate damage, downtime and help protect the welfare of building occupants but this means designing buildings better than just bare minimum code requirements. This session will explore opportunities & challenges of resilient design for at risk communities.
