Two-time JUNO Award nominee Alex Bird brings his singular blend of vocal jazz to The Bunker Performance Lounge & Cafe, joined by longtime songwriting partner Ewen Farncombe on piano and Julian Anderson-Bowes on bass.
Bird has built a reputation as one of the most compelling voices on the Canadian jazz scene. Working alongside Farncombe, he has released three original, independently produced albums in three years. Their sophomore record, You Are the Light and the Way, earned a JUNO nomination for Best Vocal Jazz in 2022, the same year the pair wrote and released the Canadian Thanksgiving anthem "The Sweetest Moments," which received national media coverage. Their 2023 duo record, Songwriter, was praised by Downbeat Magazine and picked up a second JUNO nomination in 2024. In 2024 they also released an all-original Christmas album recorded live off the floor, without headphones or studio monitors.
Bird has performed at major festivals including the Sudbury Jazz Festival, the Markham Jazz Festival, and the Kensington Market Jazz Festival, and has played celebrated venues like The Jazz Bistro and The Old Mill. Beyond music, he has appeared on CBC's Frankie Drake Mysteries and made his feature film debut in IT: Chapter 2.
