Description

Almonds Blossom in Deir Yassin directed by Hanna Eady, is a play that centers on the theme of Palestinian collective memory and how it has been rekindled ever since the first tragic and traumatic massacre, beating down the walls of forgetfulness, resisting the deafening silence of museums, and refusing to stay sealed behind the doors of classified archives. This theme is embodied by Amal (which means hope in Arabic), a character who dreams of returning to the land where she was born, to the very ground on which massacred Palestinians were piled, only to rise up as an obstinate form of new life. This insistence on remembering, retelling, and clinging to life, is a fundamental part of the Palestinian practice of sumud, or steadfastness.
