At a time of rising antisemitism and deep cultural division, Tony Award®-winning actor and activist Ari'el Stachelinvites audiences to an intimate evening of performance, storytelling, and conversation.
Created specifically for synagogues and JCCs, this original production draws from the personal experiences and themes that have defined Ari'el's critically acclaimed work. Through humor, vulnerability, and powerful character work, he explores Jewish identity, mental health, and belonging as an Arab-Jewish artist navigating multiple worlds.
Written and performed by Stachel, the performance traces his lifelong journey with OCD, the pressure to assimilate, and the identity fracture that began in the aftermath of 9/11. As a Middle Eastern Jewish teenager in America, Ari'el learned that safety often meant silence. He hid parts of his family, denied aspects of his heritage, and reshaped himself to fit into a culture that increasingly viewed his identity with suspicion. What began as self-protection eventually became performance—until it all unraveled.
The evening also reflects on the aftermath of October 7, confronting the complexity of holding both Arab and Jewish identities in a world increasingly demanding division. The result is a deeply personal, timely, and often surprisingly humorous exploration of identity, resilience, and the journey toward wholeness.
Audiences may recognize Ari'el from his Tony Award-winning performance in The Band's Visit, his one-person show Other (formerly Out of Character), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and his widely recognized Jewish advocacy work.
This is more than a performance—it's an invitation to listen, reflect, and engage in an honest conversation about identity, belonging, and our shared humanity.
