AV (Ann Vriend)

Canadian AV (Ann Vriend) is a two-time Maple Blues Award songwriting recipient, an Edmonton Music Award and Alberta Centennial Award recipient, a "keyboardist of the year" nominee at at Maple Blues Awards, and has sold more than 30,000 albums off-the-stage in her under-the-radar yet critically acclaimed international career. 

She is also the bandleader, lead singer, and arranger for the newly formed soul/roots group AV & the Inner City, who just won an Emerging Artist" award at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, at the end of a highly successful multi festival summer tour.

AV has been hailed by NOW Magazine as a musician who "turns soul on its head, belting out delicate introspection in the form of fire”. Known primarily for her incredibly powerful and dynamic vocals she is actually first and foremost a songwriter, and her many awards spanning her career are almost exclusively in that category. 

AV is also one of the only independent artists in recent history to break into the Top 100 Pop Charts of commercial radio in Germany, the world’s 4th largest music market; even taking the #1 spot on one of their largest stations, Bayern 1.

Curtis Chaffey is a Canadian guitar player and singer/songwriter from the nations capital. He has been performing in the Canadian music scene for over 24 years now. Curtis has had the opportunity to tour, performed and recorded with a multitude of Canadian acts. His songwriting career has earned himself two Juno “blues album of the year” nominations and one Maple Blues nomination for “songwriter of the year” with Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar. Curtis can be seen performing solo acoustic shows around Ontario while off the road with his main touring act, SMDS.

Red Bird is an intimate, 80 capacity music venue with excellent sound and sight lines from every seat.

We are licensed and have a selection of locally crafted beers and ciders plus a small but fine selections of wine and spirits. 

We also carry a selection of non-alcoholic beverages such as locally made sodas and non-alcoholic beers, and a small menu of snack foods such as pressed sandwiches, hot dogs, soft pretzels and pastries.

Unless otherwise noted, all shows are all ages. Everyone must have a ticket, regardless of age. 

Doors open one hour ahead of the performance time. 

Parking is available at the south end of our building and on side streets (please be respectful of parking restrictions).

Regrettably, our space is not accessible. There are six gradual and wide steps to our front door with railings on each side. Once inside, everything is on one floor including an accessible washroom. 

Event end times will vary depending on the artist.
