Our Grand Opening was on Jan 1, 2025 and what a year it has been! We have been gratified and delighted by the community support, with so many of you coming in regularly with your finds, donating time, fossils, and support to us, bringing in your out-of-town visitors, and attending our educational events. What started out as a sparse and humble exhibit of fossils has been supplemented with donations from fellow fossil lovers, transforming our exhibits into true community cases with some truly spectacular local fossils. As a big thank you, we are throwing an all day (11 am -5 pm) one-year anniversary celebration with fun, games and prizes. (Hint: keep collecting golden tickets, they will be valuable!)
When we first applied for our business permit with the City, we were asked if Fernandina Fossils would be a dating site for old folks. We love the idea of fossils bringing people together and want to encourage that with our first ever Speed Dating for Broken Hearted Megs event at 2 pm. We invite the community to come in with any locally found megalodon fragments. In the traditional speed dating style, we'll have everyone spend a few minutes with each other checking to see if their megs match. Any matched megs will be photographed and added to our "Fernandina Famous" hall of fame.
