Our annual Bonsai Auction is a lively afternoon where members, guests, and bonsai enthusiasts from across the region gather to discover unique trees, pots, tools, and materials.
Whether you're an experienced grower or just getting started, the auction is a great place to find new material, ask questions, and connect with others who share an interest in bonsai.
Members are encouraged to bring bonsai trees, pots, tools, or materials they are ready to pass along. Auctions are a great way for bonsai to find new caretakers while helping support the Cape Fear Bonsai Society.
Proceeds from the auction help fund visiting bonsai artists, educational programs, and workshops throughout the year.
Event Schedule
11:00 AM – Item donation and check-in begins
Please check in donated items by 12:00 PM
12:30 PM – Silent auction tables and item preview open
1:30 PM – Live auction begins
3:30 PM – Live auction concludes
3:30–4:00 PM – Checkout and payments
Up for Auction
Each year the auction features a wide variety of bonsai material donated by members, which may include:
• Bonsai trees and pre-bonsai starter material
• American handmade bonsai pots
• Imported containers from Japan and China
• Bonsai tools, wire, soil, and accessories
• Books, magazines, and other bonsai resources
New items are often added during donation check-in, so there is always something interesting to discover.
Light refreshments including snacks, water, soda, and tea will be available during the event.
Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted for purchases.
Everyone is welcome to attend—whether to bid on items, donate bonsai-related materials, or simply enjoy the conversation and atmosphere with fellow enthusiasts.
Whether you are looking to add a new tree to your collection, find the perfect container, or simply enjoy an afternoon with other bonsai enthusiasts, the annual auction is one of the most enjoyable gatherings of the year for our club.

The Cape Fear Bonsai Society, established in 2001, is a group that meets monthly to study and practice the art of Bonsai.
The club has an active program of training through workshops, guest speakers, and a sharing of Bonsai expertise. Membership is open to both the novice and the more experienced practitioner of Bonsai.
