Description

What shapes an artist? Join us for a dynamic installment of Art & Aperitifs as four acclaimed Memphis College of Art alumni—Kong Wee Pang, Amy Hutcheson, Lurlynn Franklin, and Sharon Havelka—sit down with their former professor, Fred Burton, for a candid conversation about art, education, and creative community.

They’ll reflect on pivotal moments at MCA: first impressions of Memphis’ art scene, enduring advice from classmates and teachers, and how their college experience shaped the work they do today—as artists, educators, and community builders. The conversation will also explore the emotional impact of MCA’s closure and offer thoughtful guidance for current and future generations of artists.

Art & Aperitifs is your art museum’s signature talk series pairing meaningful dialogue with a welcoming, social setting. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Museum Café—come early, grab a drink, and connect with others who believe in the power of creative connection.

Whether you're an alum, a student, or simply a supporter of Memphis’ artistic legacy, this event invites you to be part of a story that continues to shape the city’s cultural landscape.
