Description
What stories live in a stitch? Join Memphis-based artist, designer, and quilter Susan Rogers for an intimate conversation exploring her exhibition Of Salt and Spirit and the deeply personal, communal, and cultural traditions behind quilting.
In conversation with curator Kristin Pedrozo, Susan will share how she first learned to quilt at age five, sewing beside her grandmother with scraps of old clothing. From those early memories to her work with the Tutwiler Community Center Quilters and exhibitions across the South, Susan brings a lifetime of lived experience, artistic evolution, and community connection to her practice.
This talk will touch on the legacy of “womanly work,” the upliftment of craft as art, and her advice for anyone starting their own quilting journey. Whether you're a textile lover, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about quilting as storytelling, you’ll leave inspired by Susan’s passion, process, and powerful voice.
