Join AcA Visual Arts Director Jaik Faulk in conversation with exhibiting artists Marianne Desmarais and Jesse Poimboeuf.

 

Marianne Desmarais (b. 1972, Gulfport, MS) is an artist working with sculptural form to link material qualities with human experience. Her lifelong fascination with the resonance of objects drives the studio process across a range of materials and memory to affect our perceptual senses of touch and sight. 

Desmarais has exhibited at the Ogden Museum, On the Point, and the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans. She has participated in numerous group shows, including the 2021 Atlanta Biennial, and her work traveled internationally in the Imago Mundi collection for the Benetton Foundation. Desmarais has enjoyed residencies at ChaNorth, the Joan Mitchell Center, and the Banff Center. She earned Bachelors and Masters of Architecture I from Tulane University (95) and M.Arch II from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2002). She is a licensed architect and a member of Staple Goods Collective.

 

Jesse Poimboeuf lives and works in his home studio in the country near Cecilia, LA on the banks of the Bayou Teche. 2024 marks his 53rd year of exhibiting work in galleries and art spaces. He has shown in many juried competitions nationwide since 1967. Jesse has also produced his own performance pieces since 1977 at many alternative spaces and museums including a collaboration piece "Music from Nancy" at the Hirschorn Museum in Washington D.C. He has been collaborating for the past 17 years on a series of 200 paintings on paper with his good friend Alan Gerson, titled "Ruining Paper." His work is included in museums and many private collections.

Acadiana Center for the Arts

Our mission is fostering art and culture in Acadiana.

Founded in 1975, Acadiana Center for the Arts (“AcA”) is a community-supported nonprofit organization that fosters art and culture in Acadiana. Since its founding, AcA has developed as a major force, shaping the future of public education and community development in South Louisiana.

AcA supports the creation of new works of art, exhibits, festivals, performances, and public art across an eight-parish region that includes Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion Parishes.  

AcA aims to bring equitable access to the arts and supports fair compensation of artists. On average, AcA serves over 300,000 people annually and provides fair compensation to 2,700 artists.  

In 2013, the AcA merged with the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (“PASA”), whose mission was to educate, inspire, entertain, and culturally enrich the people of south Louisiana by providing local access to a diverse range of the performing arts. This merger supported the vision of both organizations and provided much-needed support to PASA’s programs. Founded in 1989, PASA served as a leading voice in the performing arts in South Louisiana for close to three decades.
