Description

What is Asiatic archery?

Asiatic archery was practiced throughout Asia, Eurasia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe by various cultures and includes archers shooting from the ground as well as horseback. Instead of using three fingers to draw the bow, most archers use their thumb to draw the string back.

Workshop and lesson

During this lesson and workshop, we’ll teach you how to shoot an Asiatic bow using the thumb draw technique. With Asiatic archery, the arrow will be shot with the arrow placed on the outside of the bow. We’ll give a brief overview of the history of Asiatic archery, and how to shoot thumb draw. You may feel some discomfort on your thumb when shooting thumb draw because the weight of the bow is being pulled by a  single digit.

We’ll bring in replicas of historical equipment including bows, a shield, quivers, and targets for you to view.

Equipment

We’ll have loaner equipment including bows, leather thumb tabs, thumb rings, and protective gloves to use. If you own your own Asiatic bow and equipment, bring it to the lesson and workshop.

Interested in purchasing a thumb ring? We'll have some models of Vermil thumb rings for sale.

Fee and capacity

Fee for the class and workshop is $35 per person. This class is limited to 10 people.

Photography

By purchasing a ticket, you agree to have photos taken of you while at the lesson. Photos will only be used for social media purposes.
