Description

Interested in what it takes to be an astronaut or build a career in a STEM based field?

Join us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3rd, to Lift Off to a Galaxy of STEM Possibilities!

The Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) and CASE Consultants International co-host a Saturday STEM event, December 3rd at 2 pm, with generous support from sponsor by ASRC Federal. The event takes place on the 4th floor of The Collider in Downtown Asheville. Activities include a presentation by Altman, an award from ASRC Federal to the local Asheville High School / SILSA Robotics Club, Glitch 2.0, and career discussion opportunities with specialists from ASRC Federal.

Light refreshments will be provided and the Robotics Club robot may make an appearance!

Drawing from his personal experiences, Altman shares his unique perspective on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education as a springboard to STEM careers. Altman had a distinguished career with NASA and the Navy. The former astronaut and 2018 astronaut Hall of Fame inductee is a veteran of four space flights, logging over 51 days in space and commanded the final two servicing missions of the Hubble Space Telescope.

The US Department of Education estimates that 60% of 21st century jobs will require skills in STEM but that only 20% of the workforce will possess those skills. According to several studies, early exposure to STEM education helps students with a lifetime of academic achievement, confidence to take on more challenging STEM education in secondary and college careers, and an ability to identify oneself in a STEM related career as an adult. AMOS, CASE, and ASRC Federal are teaming up to help support the STEAM-talent pipeline, empowering students, families, and individuals to envision a future for themselves in STEM.

Admission to this signature event is free to the public, but space is limited, so register today!
