Join us for an unforgettable evening of folk music live from our newly refurbished Francis Thompson Lounge.
Axum is an eight-piece folk band from the North East of England, weaving together traditional tunes from across the British Isles and beyond into lush, captivating new arrangements. Their music blends rich harmonies, inventive instrumentation, and heartfelt energy — perfect for formal seated concerts, festivals, or atmospheric background music at special events.
This season, Axum’s performances will feature a festive selection of Christmas songs, reimagined with their signature folk flair — a warm and joyful addition to any celebration.
Past performances include: Beamish Open Air Museum May Day Celebrations, Tall Ships Blyth and Sunderland, The Sage Late Shows, Seaton Delaval Hall, Ushaw Historic House, Sunderland River Festival, Jesmond Festival, and various summer fayres.
“Stunningly beautiful music mixing tradition with invention to deliver a truly haunting sound that draws out every
fibre of each tune they approach.”
Tim Carroll, Folkwords
