Description

Bard at the Batture “Spring Awakening” is Crescent City Stage’s take on Shakespeare in the Park, re-imagined for the riverfront.

Spring Awakening is a journey through Shakespeare’s worlds of love, longing, wit, and renewal. Six archetypal characters move through the seasons of the heart: young lovers discovering desire, friends navigating identity and independence, cynics mocking romance, and authority figures confronting truth and forgiveness. As the evening unfolds, passion ripens into maturity, winter softens into spring, and the play closes by returning us to wonder, reminding us that imagination, love, and change are the oldest stories we know.  Featuring a curated selection of monologues and scenes from across the canon, this evening pairs timeless language with one of New Orleans’ most striking natural settings.

Designed as a relaxed, family-friendly gathering, audiences are invited to listen, linger, and experience Shakespeare’s words as the sun sets along the Mississippi.

Doors open at 5:30pm, grab a drink and food from the onsite Miss Market, then head to The Courtyard to grab your seat.  The performance will begin at 6:30pm and run approximately 80 minutes without intermission.

ABOUT THE BATTURE:

The word Batture is one we borrow from the French, referring to the vast expanses of exposed riverbank sculpted by the ebb and flow of the Mississippi River over thousands of years

Here, in New Orleans, the River is an essential ingredient in our daily lives. Whether it’s the distinctive curve that defines our Crescent City or our hyperlocal way of giving directions, the rhythm of the River flows through every aspect of how we live. Now, The Batture—a space designed by locals for locals—revitalizes a forgotten riverfront, bringing together food, friends, and the warmth of our city.

At its heart is the Great Lawn, a sprawling green space for gathering and relaxation. Framed by neighborhood-scale structures that honor our maritime industrial past, this mixed-use destination will showcase the best of New Orleans’ food and beverage. Whether you're here to catch a sunset, enjoy a meal, or take in the lush surroundings, The Batture awaits.

For the first time in 150 years, The Batture is opening to the public on a limited basis. Join us on the river every weekend, featuring local food trucks, purveyors, and the stunning riverfront as your backdrop.

This is just the beginning. Follow us on Instagram for updates, and be part of The Batture’s journey. We can’t wait to meet you at The Batture.
