Founded in 2005, the Denver-based Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado inspires audiences through creative and collaborative live performances of early music. Led by Artistic Director Frank Nowell and Amsterdam-based Leader/Concertmaster Cynthia Miller Freviogel, the orchestra has built a national reputation for artistic excellence and captivating and unusual programming.
Performing regularly around the Denver metro area and across Colorado’s mountain and plains towns, the orchestra has been a cultural cornerstone for nearly two decades. Recognized for breaking down barriers in genres and art forms, BCOC has collaborated with a diverse range of renowned regional and international guest artists, including many Grammy winners and nominees, contemporary dance companies, Miming theaters, puppetry theater and folk and global music tradition specialists.
For this concert, five musicians from the Baroque Chamber Orchestra will present "Now and Then," a time-traveling program of virtuoso chamber music from the 18th and 21st centuries, with selections by Georg Philipp Telemann, Joseph Bologne (aka Chevalier de Saint-Georges), Joseph Haydn, and Kenji Bunch.
A portion of the proceeds from this concert will benefit El Sistema Colorado, a tuition-free, excellence-driven, and opportunity-focused youth orchestra program that develops musical and personal agency, transcends socioeconomics, and strengthens community. El Sistema Colorado envisions a world where every young person, regardless of background, has access to music's transformative power. In partnership with our community, we embolden young musicians to become confident, empathetic, and resilient leaders who contribute to a more representative, creative, and connected society.
