Class Overview
Basic Improv for Teens: 101 is a nine-week introductory improv course designed specifically with teens in mind. Improv helps teens, by using age-appropriate improvisation games and exercises, build real-world confidence in a way that feels fun, engaging, and low-pressure. While the class is rooted in the core principles of improv, the skills gained extend far beyond the stage and into everyday life. By learning to think on their feet, listen actively, and work collaboratively, teens gain tools that support communication, emotional awareness, and social confidence—both in and out of the classroom.
Unlike performance-based activities that focus on memorization or perfection, improv encourages adaptability, creativity, and self-trust. Every student is supported, and mistakes are treated as part of the learning process.
This class is ideal for teens who may be shy, anxious in social settings, interested in performing arts, or simply looking for a fun way to grow confidence and connection with peers.
What Your Teen Will Gain
Through guided instruction and playful practice, students will develop:
- Confidence in self-expression and communication
- Active listening and awareness of others
- Social adaptability and teamwork skills
- Comfort speaking in front of groups
- Emotional awareness and responsiveness
- Creative problem-solving and flexibility
- A healthy relationship with mistakes and imperfection
Improv encourages teens to trust themselves, support others, and stay present—skills that support personal growth, leadership, and emotional resilience.
Improv Foundations We Teach
While the class emphasizes confidence and social growth, students are also learning the core principles of improvisation, including:
- “Yes, and…” (acceptance and collaboration)
- Listening and responding in the moment
- Making bold choices without self-judgment
- Supporting scene partners and group success
- Using imagination, physicality, and emotion
- Introduction to character and scene basics
**No prior improv or acting experience is required.
Class Structure
- Weekly 90-minute classes
- Warm-ups, group games, and guided exercises
- Emphasis on participation, encouragement, and growth
- A supportive classroom environment where all students are respected
The course concludes with a student showcase, allowing teens to share what they’ve learned in a fun, low-pressure performance for family and friends.
