The Parlor Room School of Music Presents:
Basic Sound Mixing
at The Parlor Room
January 21st & 28th
2pm-4pm

Workshop Price: $125 GA / $100 MEMBERS (for 2 classes)

Workshop Capacity: 12 (18+)

Learn the basics of sound, signal flow, and PA equipment. Hands-on time will be spent with digital and analog mixers, and different types of microphones. This workshop is for you if you have little to no experience with sound and you want to learn more and musicians who want to be able to mix their own performances (experience with music is helpful but not required). This is a cumulative two-session course, each class building off the previous one. By the end of this course you will learn how to operate a basic PA system for solo to trio acts.

Meet your Instructors:

Karen Sise is a sound engineer with over 20 years of experience. After starting out doing sound design for theatre, she went on to earn her Associate of Science in Recording Engineering at Full Sail. Karen moved into the live sound sphere working at Klondike Sound Company for nearly 10 years. As an independent engineer now Karen primarily works for Signature Sounds and the Parlor Room and can be found mixing at the Tiny House at the Green River Festival. When not doing sound Karen is at her day job at Smith College or at home with her teen and 2 cats.

Since graduating from Hampshire College with a BA in Music, Jared Libby has worked at a handful of concert venues, some great festivals—Green River Festival, FreshGrass, Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival, Back Porch Festival, Arcadia Folk Festival, Levon Helm Jubilee, Dirt Farmer Festival—and toured the country as front-of-house engineer. Having traveled with Rachael & Vilray, guitarist Julian Lage, and others, he’s mixed in all sorts of venues coast-to-coast from Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, CA, to the Station Inn in Nashville to Lincoln Center in NYC. These days you can regularly find him on tour with Amy Helm when he’s not mixing at The Parlor Room, or mixing/mastering recordings in his studio.
