Fauna Rescue SA Flying-fox & Microbat Team are holding a Bat Information Day for those who are either interested in joining the team or learning more about these remarkable animals.

Workshop Content  

Topics covered in the presentation include:

Flying-foxes – Alice Wright
– The role of flying foxes in the Australian landscape
– Why flying fox numbers are declining
– Why flying foxes are found in South Australia
– Colony social dynamics and reproduction
– Key differences between flying foxes and microbats

Microbats – Katrina Boardman, Microbat and Flying fox Coordinator
– Species found in South Australia
– Identification
– Habitat
– Echolocation

How you can help:

Flying-foxes:
- Caring for orphaned young—what’s involved?
- Rescuing injured or sick animals—what’s involved?
- Helping with flying fox fly out counts
- Assisting at Heat Stress Events (HSE)

Microbats:
Rescue—what’s involved?
Care—what’s involved?

After the presentation, anyone interested in joining the team can attend a session to meet team members and ask questions about the roles and requirements of becoming a Fauna Rescue SA Bat Team member, whether vaccinated against rabies or not.

Ticketing and Costs 

There is NO COST to attend this workshop. Please register to save your spot and to assist with catering requirements. 

Online attendance - existing members who have previously attended at least one workshop in person, and live approximately 100km away from Fauna Rescue SA HQ, are eligible to attend online. If you are a member and would like to attend online, please email us at training@faunarescue.com.au 

Merchandise will be available for sale on the day to members only. Card facilities are available. 

If you are no longer able to attend the event, please notify us as soon as possible via marketing@faunarescue.com.au

Food and Catering

The lunch break during the workshop is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet other like-minded people. 

Please BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH or A PLATE TO SHARE.
