Join Tangle of Thorns Art for a beginner-friendly Luna moth pinning workshop, hosted at Stem Rochester. In this hands-on class, you'll learn the fundamentals of entomological pinning while creating your own professionally mounted Luna moth (Actias luna) display to take home.

Over the course of this 90-minute class, you'll be guided through each step of the pinning process — from learning about the specimen and proper handling techniques to positioning, pinning, and preparing your moth for drying and display. No prior experience is necessary, and instruction is provided every step of the way.

Each ticket includes:

• One ethically and sustainably sourced Luna moth (Actias luna)
• All tools and materials needed during class
• A display frame to take your finished specimen home
• Step-by-step instruction in a relaxed, supportive environment
• An informational booklet and access to video demonstrations for the finishing steps completed at home

This workshop is designed specifically for beginners, though anyone with an interest in insects, natural history, oddities, art, or science is welcome. Class sizes are intentionally kept limited to allow for individualized instruction while keeping the experience comfortable and hands-on.

Please Note:

Your specimen will require additional drying time after class before it is ready for permanent display. Detailed instructions will be provided, and you'll leave with everything needed to complete the process successfully at home.
