We are excited that you are interested in our beginner sourdough class. Here is a short explanation of what the class will cover and what you will receive at the class. We have had an overwhelming amount of interest, so to start out we will be giving two different dates for classes with more to follow in the upcoming months. Please sign up immediately as these classes as we expect them to fill up.
In the class we will cover in a basic form what sourdough is and what makes it different from a traditional yeast bread. So many are confused about starter/discard and how to handle it. We will teach you what sourdough starter is and how to keep it alive and strengthen it. With this basic understanding it will help you learn how to manipulate your starter, dough and different recipes that you want to make.
You will receive an active sourdough starter at the beginning of the class and a simple sourdough bread recipe that we will then walk through.
We will take my starter and weigh out all ingredients and mix so that you can see what it should look like. The dough has to sit for a short time and during this time you will be able to order a drink to enjoy during the rest of the class.
We will then take our dough and do the necessary stretches and place in bowl to rest. This is helpful so that you can feel and see what the dough will be like.
We will have several different stages of dough there for you so you can see what it will look and feel like after it has bulk fermented.
We will form our dough for baking with additional instructions on how to do that.
There will be samples of the bread recipe you have received and techniques we are using.
Sourdough can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. We would like to teach you simple, which will give you the tools to take it as far as you want to.
