Step aboard the Floating Classroom for an immersive journey into the hidden stories and natural wonders of Lake Norman. Beneath the Surface: Nature and History of Lake Norman invites participants to explore how human activity, environmental change, and local ecosystems have shaped — and continue to shape — the lake we know today.
Through engaging interpretation, this program examines the region’s transformation from river valley to reservoir, highlighting the environmental impact of damming the Catawba River, the creation of Lake Norman, and the diverse plant and animal life that call it home. Participants will also learn about ongoing conservation efforts and what they can do to help protect this vital freshwater resource.
Whether you’re a student, a lifelong learner, or simply curious about the world beneath the waves, this unique on-the-water experience offers a powerful perspective on the interconnectedness of nature, people, and place.
