On November 1, 2005, the UN General Assembly designated January 27 as “International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.” CRS, in partnership with the American Society for Yad Vashem, is marking this year’s observance with an immersive exhibit that details the rescue stories of Albanian Muslims who, in accordance with their code of honor, risked their lives to protect Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. This code of honor has a name: Besa, which means “to keep the promise”, and it still serves as Albania’s strong ethical code.
On Wednesday, January 25, Marlene W. Yahalom, PhD, American Society for Yad Vashem’s Director of Education, will install Yad Vashem’s “BESA” exhibit, created and developed by Yad Vashem (The World Holocaust Remembrance Center) here at CRS. We invite you to join her at the top of the hour at 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 or 7:00 PM for a 15-minute lecture and orientation with Q&A, and then explore the exhibit at your own pace (the whole experience takes about 45 minutes).
The BESA exhibit is made possible by the American Society for Yad Vashem.
