Description

This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Edgewood/Kirkwood, focuses on themes of Environment, History & Culture.

Join Joey Goodall, civil engineer, outdoors lover, historian and writer for a walking tour that takes you through the charming neighborhood streets from farm to urban forest, then return via the busy Memorial Drive.

  • Learn about Memorial Drive and how it runs through the heart of Atlanta, serving as a linear narrative of our complex history. At the edges of the Edgewood and Kirkwood neighborhoods, Sugar Creek and Hardee Creek flow quietly beneath one of our busiest commercial corridors.

  • Look at the present and the past by investigating roadside historical markers recount the Civil War battles fought over this area. And, the rapid effects of gentrification.

  • Connect with your community by exploring diverse locations on foot and gain unique insights into the beauty, fragility, and potential of our urban landscape.

About the Walk Leader(s)

Joey Goodall is a civil engineer, writer, student of local history and lover of the outdoors,Joey  thinks walking is one of the best ways to build community and develop a love for our neighborhoods and ecosystems. Born in New Zealand and raised in Florida, Atlanta has been Goodall’s home for nearly a decade, where Joey has honed my interest and skills in land development and storytelling. Jane’s Walks allow us to explore the many intersections within our cities; between roadways and watersheds, green spaces and foodways, utility networks and human histories.
