Join us for July Cookbook Club, when we'll be cooking through Justine Cooks! Justine Doiron (a.k.a. @justine_snacks) is known for approachable, inventive cooking that surprises with its unexpected flavor and ingredient pairings, as well as her love of vegetables, beans, bread, and farmers’ markets. Summer seemed like a great time to cook with her.
This month's event will be held at the Old Pine Community Center. We are so grateful for their generous partnership and ask that attendees bring a contribution to their July food drive, for which they are requesting fruit cups and snack packs (especially granola bars and dried fruit). We'll also be donating $5 per ticket to support their mission of enriching the lives of our neighbors through programs and services focused on addressing food insecurity, supporting children and families, and building community engagement.
Cookbook Club is an potluck event where everyone contributes a dish from the selected book. Here's how it works:
1) You purchase your ticket(s) from this page, with or without a copy of the book.* (We highly encourage book sharing and use of libraries! You can also buy from Bookshop.org, which supports the shop and ships to your door.)
*To include a book for shop pickup with your purchase, select the discounted "Ticket + Book" option. You can then add the book to your cart after clicking "Checkout." Books will be available for pickup at Binding Agents right away.
2) One week before the event, we'll send out a Google Doc with a set number of slots per category by which the book is organized. Each person will claim a slot with the recipe of their choice. This ensures a good spread and a cross-section of all the book has to offer.
3) On event day, you'll bring your dish to the venue, prepared to feast. We'll talk about our experience cooking and eating from the book, and leave with lots of great tips and new friends.
Space is limited! If the event sells out, please add yourself to the waitlist. You'll be the first to know if spots become available. To receive updates about future Cookbook Clubs (hosted monthly)—make sure you're on our mailing list.
PRAISE FOR JUSTINE COOKS
“Apologies to my mother, who tried very hard, but no one can get me to eat my vegetables like Justine. Her plant-forward recipes are intensely crunchy, creamy, crispy, and crave-worthy.” —Dan Pelosi, author of Let’s Eat
“You are in for a gorgeous and delicious cornucopia of genius cooking tips, flavor combos, recipes, and more. For me, it was the ‘obsessive chocolate chip cookie behavior’ spread that confirmed Justine and I are indeed soul snack sisters.” —Jessie Sheehan, author of Salty, Cheesy, Herby, Crispy Snackable Bakes
“Justine’s recipes are pure comfort food with a daring side. I love that this cookbook resonates with her humor as well as her calm reverence for exceptional ingredients and beans, always beans.” —Samantha Brown, host of Samantha Brown’s Places to Love
“Not only is this book beautiful, but Justine’s approach to cooking makes me crave vegetables in ways I never knew I could. These recipes are flavor bombs with thoughtful steps to make ordinary ingredients shine in a way that meat would only play second fiddle to.” —Nini Nguyen, chef and author of Đặc Biệt: An Extra-Special Vietnamese Cookbook
