She is also the illustrator, author, and/or co-author of five delightful comic book cookbooks: The Adventures of Fat Rice (2016), Let’s Make Ramen! (2019), Let’s Make Dumplings! (2021), Let’s Make Bread! (2024), and her latest, Let's Make Cocktails! (2026).
Join us at Binding Agents for a happy hour and comic/cookbook talk with Sarah, master of the form. We'll share a batched cocktail (spirit-full or spirit-free options), chat about the art and science of illustrated cookbooks (including her forthcoming cookie book 👀), the wide-ranging inspiration behind her long-running webcomic, and more.
In true happy hour fashion, this event will include plenty of time to sip and chat! Drinks will be available starting at 5:30pm, and the talk will run from 6-6:30pm.
Guests may choose a ticket with or without a copy of Let's Make Cocktails. Copies of Sarah's other books will be available for on-site purchase. All tickets include a cocktail (NA option available) and a seat for the talk.

Sarah Becan invites readers to wet their whistles in Let's Make Cocktails! Featuring her colorful, engaging illustrations that have become a series favorite, the book opens with insight on the proper tools, glassware, and staple ingredients such as juices, sodas, homemade syrups, and garnishes to always have in stock. With vivid, easy-to-follow graphics, Becan guides readers through basic techniques such as shaking, stirring, muddling, and more. The book explores the origins, traditions, and popular legends surrounding foundational cocktails, including fun tidbits on drink accompaniments and occasions.
With chapters organized by spirit for easy access, readers will delight in the panelized step-by-step comic instructions for crafting a proper Gin or Vodka Martini, a refreshing Mojito, an eye-opening Bloody Mary, and more. For those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, she also includes delicious spirit-free options such as the perfect Arnold Palmer, Fruit and Vinegar Shrub, and Lemon, Lime & Bitters. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sarah Becan is a comics artist, author, illustrator and designer, and the creator of “I Think You’re Sauceome.” Her work has appeared in various publications, including Saveur Magazine, Eater.com, Chicago Magazine, The Chicago Reader, and Tasting Table. She was awarded a Xeric Award and a Stumptown Trophy for her first graphic novel, The Complete Ouija Interviews, and her work has twice been nominated for the Ignatz Award.
Becan’s second graphic novel, Shuteye, was released in early 2012. In 2014, she wrote and illustrated Luna de Cuernos, a long form graphic story for Fifth House Ensemble’s spring 2014 concert series.
Becan illustrated the cookbook The Adventures of Fat Rice, published 2016 by Ten Speed Press, and is the coauthor and illustrator of Let’s Make Ramen! (July 2019), Let’s Make Dumplings! (June 2021), Let’s Make Bread! (May 2024) , and the author and illustrator of Let's Make Cocktails! (April 2026).
Sarah lives in Chicago with her partner Niles and their cat Toki.
