712 Montrose StreetMay’s Cookbook Club is a choose-your-own adventure! We’re celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by inviting you to cook a recipe from a cookbook by any AANHPI author.
We’ll be joined by two wonderful author friends, Caroline Choe (Banchan) and Pooja Bavishi (Malai), for an evening in the garden at Jet Wine Bar. The event has been moved indoors to the basement venue at St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi Church due to the heat advisory. Please note this space requires one flight of stairs to access.
For those who want to add to their cookbook collections, we’ve created a list of some favorite, more recent releases on Bookshop.org. These books (including Banchan and Malai!) are currently in stock at Binding Agents. Feel free to email or DM us to check stock and set copies aside. You can also order directly through Bookshop to support the store. HOWEVER, you are welcome to cook from a book you already have, of any age.
The goal is to create a giant list of cookbooks we love and authors we love to support!
Cookbook Club is a potluck event where everyone contributes a dish from the selected book(s). Here's how it works:
1) You purchase your ticket(s) from this page. If you'd like to pick up a book from Binding Agents this month, just drop in and we'll help you find something great. Or, you can have a copies of some of our suggested books shipped to you directly via Bookshop.org, which also supports the store. We highly encourage book sharing, use of libraries, and publicly available recipes from the books online!
2) One week before the event, we'll send out a Google Doc with a set number of slots per category of dish (snack/app, main course, sides, desserts, drinks, etc). Each person will claim a slot with the recipe of their choice. This ensures a good spread and a cross-section of what these books have to offer!
3) On event day, you'll bring your dish to the venue, prepared to feast. We'll talk about our experience cooking, baking, and eating, and leave with lots of great tips and new friends. All tickets include a container to take home any leftovers.
