Presenter Profiles
Marie Kozulic has been Chairperson of Fauna Rescue SA since 2018 and a member of FRSA since 2002. Marie has extensive experience rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing native birds, including granivores and insectivores. Although now her time is mainly spent on Admin work in her Chairperson role, Marie has raised birds from chicks all the way through to release and has a soft spot in her heart for doves, pigeons and magpies.
Rachel Thamm is an active rescuer and carer with Fauna Rescue SA and founder of Elwood Sanctuary, where she specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of native waterbirds and backyard bird species. Rachel has a particular passion for ducklings and urban bird rescues, supporting both emergency call-outs and longer-term rehabilitation. Through this workshop, Rachel shares practical, hands-on guidance drawn from real rescue experience, including safe capture, stabilisation, common mistakes to avoid, and how to give birds and ducklings the very best chance of successful release. She is passionate about empowering rescuers with confidence, kindness and evidence-based care practices.
