Description
BITCH Fest is currently being presented as a workshop production, with the work continuing to evolve through live performance and audience engagement. This developmental process is an intentional part of the piece’s ongoing creation and artistic exploration.
BITCH Fest (Breath Ignited Through Creative Healing) is a new immersive choreoplay written by Jinah Parker and directed by Tai Thompson — but it's not only a play.
BITCH Fest functions simultaneously as a live theatrical performance and a wellness workshop. When you walk through the doors, you enter a wellness space facilitated by Karen. As a theatrical performance, Karen is at the center. In the present, she is healed and clear-eyed, narrating her own life. In the past, Young Karen is living it. Her story moves through the relationships that shaped her and the generational wounds confronted by the women closest to her, and the healing that becomes possible when those wounds are finally faced. As Karen guides her community through breathwork, movement, and other wellness practices, you are invited to participate as much or as little as you choose. You will leave having experienced both a complete theatrical work and a genuine wellness practice.
A note before you attend: BITCH Fest is ultimately an experience of healing, community, and care. This production does contain depictions of sexual violence, and we want you to come with full awareness that this content is present. Audience members are welcomed into an experience designed with trauma-informed care in mind. Additionally, upon entering the space, guests are asked to remove their shoes. Think of it like stepping into a yoga studio or wellness sanctuary.
Research opportunity: BITCH Fest is connected to doctoral research in mind-body medicine. Audience members are invited to participate in a post-show focus group, but attending the show does not make you a research participant. Only those who choose to stay and opt in after the performance will be included in the study, following standard informed consent procedures. Participant identities will remain confidential within the research.
