Description

“Black in Time” is an original musical written and directed by Mr. Hall to honor the lasting legacy that black people have left on society through the years. This script combines the truthful information of history, heritage and culture with the fun of science fiction for an educational adventure!

A group of bright, curious students create a time machine which stops through several important time periods for black people. They return to the present day with a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who came before them, and a renewed determination to build a better future, inspired by the legacy of Black history.

Black in Time will take the audience on a journey through the best decades of the black experience, starting with the African Dahomey Kingdom of 1820 under the rule of King Ghezo.

By integrating the Agojie female army, King Ghezo was able to bolster the military strength of West Africa.

The Dahomey Amazon warriors were a loyal, unstoppable force with exceptional combat skills. They showed the strength of women in warfare.

Meet Harriet Tubman , a brave and selfless leader in the fight for freedom from slavery. After becoming free in 1848, Harriet went back South to bring other slaves to freedom. She was the leader of an escape route known as the Underground Railroad.

Learn about the story of Claudette Colvin, a young woman who refused to give up her seat nine months before Rosa Parks and inspired the 1955 bus boycott.

Another stop on the journey will be a 1920's Harlem Renaissance night at the Cotton Club.
The last stop will be a 1978 night at the disco!

This accidental journey through time becomes a transformative experience. The time travelers even run into the Queen of Soul who teaches them a lesson about Respect.

Aretha Franklin was a musician best known for revolutionizing the music industry. Her  1967 version of "the song Respect" became a battle cry song for the Women's Rights movement and Civil Rights movement.
