Three distinct voices from the orbit of indie rock, experimental folk, and singer-songwriter music come together for an evening at Mount Ida Preservation Hall.
Raybody writes classic singer-songwriter songs that get weird. Her endlessly dynamic voice moves from feral and tough to intimate and nurturing, backed by Andrew Forman and Ethan Kogan: jazz musicians steeped in New York’s experimental and indie-rock scenes. Together, the trio moves between cinematic extremes, creating music that can be crushing, soaring, maniacal, and warm.
NYC/Hudson Valley-based artist Jackie West brings songs from her sophomore record, Silent Century. Playful, intimate, and searching, the album unfolds like a conversation between West and herself, exploring femininity and fluidity, violence and forgiveness, and our capacity to heal. West has a gift for making quiet moments resonate as powerfully as loud ones, finding meaning in the small details while examining questions of voice, identity, and bodily autonomy.
Blue Ranger—brothers Josh and Evan Marré, Matt Griffin, and Connor Armbruster draw on more than half a decade of playing together to stretch familiar folk-rock textures into something expansive and unpredictable. Slide guitar, fiddle, percussion, bass, synthesizers, feedback, and improvisation move through post-rock and free-jazz territory while remaining rooted in the band's deeply developed musical language. Their performances balance spontaneity with an unmistakable command of texture, creating a sonic landscape that can transform from delicate and mournful to frenetic and overwhelming.
