The Bluegrass Workshop is a class specifically for mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and banjo players to examine the mechanics and roles of their instruments in various jam situations. How to start a song, when and how to chop, what to play when backing up singers & other instruments, and what to play when there are multiples of the same instrument, are some of the topics that will be covered and demonstrated. Professional bluegrass enthusiast Eric Lee will methodically explain and demonstrate each of these points, then allow participants to try out those techniques themselves.
Session 1:

Following the workshop will be an open jam for all skill levels, and will feature some of the songs covered during the workshop.
A Pennsylvania-born singer, songwriter, and award-winning multi-instrumentalist, Eric Lee has worked professionally in the bluegrass and folk idioms for nearly two decades, and has appeared onstage with an impressive list of artists that include the Gibson Brothers, Billy Strings, The Kennedys, Eric Andersen, Peter Rowan, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, and many more. Prior to the pandemic, he toured internationally as a member of the Philadelphia-based bluegrass act Man About A Horse, winning first place in the esteemed Freshgrass band competition in 2018, and receiving the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Award nomination. In 2021, Lee formed Poor Monroe, whose dedicated focus on scorching tempos, complex vocal harmonies, and compelling traditional and original material showcases Lee’s proficiency as a band leader, arranger, writer and frontman, and has earned them spots at Green River Festival, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Back Porch Fest, Podunk Bluegrass Festival, Ossippee Valley Folk, and more, as well as two Western New England music award nominations. Eric currently lives and teaches in Easthampton, MA.
