Description
Body Bamboo: Sticky Situations (Partial Suspensions)
Saturday, August 8, 2:30-5pm
A workshop exploring tying with bamboo in partial suspension
(Note that Part 1: Body Bamboo: Floor Foundations runs earlier on the same day at 12pm–2pm)
Description: Stuck between a rock and a hard place? Try being stuck between two sticks! In this intermediate workshop, participants will learn several dynamic partial suspension predicaments that use bamboo to create increased restriction and challenging body positions. We'll explore how bamboo changes leverage, balance, and mobility while discussing techniques for safely building, adjusting, and exiting each predicament.
This class assumes prior experience with both body bamboo and partial suspension and focuses on expanding your repertoire rather than reviewing foundational skills.
Prerequisites: Tying partners should have prior experience with partial suspensions and be comfortable working with uplines, load distribution, and transitions. Participants should already know how to attach bamboo to the body, as these techniques will not be reviewed in depth.
Partners being tied should have previous experience in partial suspensions and be comfortable communicating while in physically demanding or stressful positions.
Both partners should have a solid understanding of partial suspension safety, including uplines, load management, nerve injury prevention, and emergency procedures.
Required Materials:
8–10 hanks of rope, rigging equipment, cutting tool. Bamboo will be provided by the studio. Rope is also available for sale with ticket or at the workshop.
