Description

BrassZilla was founded by multi-instrumentalist Hal Longley, along with Zach Zins and Bob DeBoer, in 2011 as a way for the trio to explore their love of jazz, funk, blues, and other forms while touring in the U.S. and Europe with the Minneapolis rock band Chooglin'. Longley and DeBoer met in the 7th Street Entry basement during the 2005 cover song contest and afterwards took part in the first iteration of the band Eleganza! All three horn players played in Eleganza's recent rendering of Exile on Main Street, which was ranked the fourth best live show of 2018 in the Star Tribune.

The three brass players began to slowly develop a sound and play out in the following years. They quickly realized that drums and percussion would complete the band and open up multiple avenues of exploration as they developed original material. Drummer Andy Deckard sparked the band in new directions by setting a variety of tonal environments and easy-going pockets in which the horns can thrive.

Henry Bullard - My musical style is quite varied and eclectic. I mix many different types of music from different countries, languages, and eras. You might hear an original song written in Alaska followed by a song sung in Italian followed by an electric sitar instrumental.  I am a bit of a shape shifter, and can play sweetly or fiercely, depending on the ambiance of the room I am playing. I can play an entire show of originals, telling stories about where the songs come from, or I can play up to three hours of incredibly varied covers from around the world.  I play a steel tri-cone resonator guitar, traditional acoustic guitar, harmonica, electric guitar, banjo, foot percussion, and the electric sitar.
