About EMDR Therapy
Group EMDR Therapy will be guided by Cassandra Holt, MSEd, LPC, NCC, CIT, and Licensed Professional Counselor. "Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences." Nervous About Group EMDR?
There's no need to be nervous, as Group EMDR will not be like a one-on-one EMDR session. We will only complete the first few phases of EMDR called "resourcing." Where we identify negative cognitions (or perspectives) and pinpoint helpful calming resources for the times when these cognitions arise again in your regular daily life. We will not process through traumas together, since everyone has different levels of private trauma.
About Yin Yoga
"You may have noticed, many emotions we experience through the years stay with us, in the form of feelings and memories. They can affect our ability to let go of the past and heal from trauma. These old feelings and memories can consume our energy and bring physical or mental pain, chronic injury, body tightness & persistent unwanted emotion. Through the gentle process of Yin Yoga, our bodies can voluntarily release this unwanted energy that no longer serves us.Yin Yoga is practiced primarily on the floor, often with yoga props. It is slow paced, sedentary and for some people it's highly meditative. The poses target the connective tissues, and primarily the fascia (Source: www.presentdayyoga.com)" Here is a video of guest teacher Dehvon "Day" Davies teaching Yin Yoga.
Art Therapy
During the art therapy sessions we will practice, artistic "Self-Mapping"and journaling in a custom workbook (provided). In the workbook participants will express how their minds and bodies feel before and after the various therapeutic stages of the workshop. Participants will be encouraged to use other mediums and art supplies to decorate and express themselves in their private workbook.
More Information
We will practice guided meditation and stream-of-consciousness writing to support the processing and release of unwanted emotions. Licensed Therapist, Cassie Holt Kimbell of Freestyle Therapy, will guide the group in understanding and connecting to themselves using a visual-representation of a range of emotions called an "emotional thermometer." This exercise supports participants in identifying the feelings they're working through. Cassie will also elaborate on "blocking beliefs" and support the group in understanding potential inhibiting cognitions.
During this 3-hour workshop, using discussion, writing, art, yoga and EMDR therapy, participants will be encouraged to process their emotions and connect with a relaxed and joyful version of themselves. "Breathe Out" is a gentle and intimate workshop in a small, safe and encouraging environment. Join us. We look forward to meeting each of you!
