Description

Building your own website used to be one of the things you could do on the internet! You could while away hours, browsing people's personal sites, learning about people, hobbies, projects, favorite tv shows, least favorite books, anything and everything, as your AOL bill kept ticking over.

In this class we go back to the roots of the web 1.0 and learn how to use our friends HTML and CSS to build our own website on a topic entirely of your choosing. We'll browse what remains of the old web and places where a new "old" web emerges for inspiration. We'll find resources that will help us build our own website, and we'll have a wwwhale of a time! You will leave with the beginning of a website and the knowledge to continue creating and finalizing your website after class.

No prior knowledge required. Please bring your laptop (with a keyboard and running a non-mobile operating system) and charger. Mac or PC are fine.

Kami Wallner (he/him) is an aging millennial originally from Germany. He is also trans and bi, which has some bearing on being what back then people called "digital native" and now is called "terminally online". Kami is an illustrator and comic artist by trade. He's always found satisfaction in working with website codes with their clear "it works/it doesn't work" dichotomy.
