Introducing the 2022 Enlightening The Dark Theatre Company production, But Why? | Duration: 2+ Hours | Rating: Suggestion 13+

Sometimes, it’s not really about the circumstances. Sometimes, it’s about our responses. How do we play the cards that we have been dealt? In what direction do we take our next step? But why? But why are we the way we are? What are all of the things that culminate to make us who we are? This may not be a question that we ponder often, but at Anderson Highschool, everyone is asking about Drew Gallagher. Drew is the stereotypical bully when he is on school grounds or even at the local coffee shop. But he takes “harassment” to a whole other level when he logs into the new, popular, social media platform: Illum. But why is Drew so intense, angry, and hateful? There has to be a reason. Right? When everything begins to cave, Drew must confront his circumstances and his responses. And he finds himself at a place where he must either move forward or turn in a new direction. Drew is not the only one with a story to tell.

When push comes to shove, which way will he fall?

Enlightening The Dark

The title “Enlightening the Dark” comes from the idea that darkness exists in various forms. Sometimes it’s heartache and pain, other times it’s abuse and hate, it can even be ignorance and judgement. Regardless of the circumstances, we believe that light always casts out darkness and EN-lightening the individuals involved, brings empowerment and hope. It is our goal to confront the darkness that youth face by enlightening them through truth and the strength to tell their stories. We raise awareness about important issues and strive to gain wisdom as we embrace our gifts and shortcomings. The main aspect of "darkness" that we hope to learn from is that of stories untold or misunderstood.
