Our Butts Out Backyard BBQ Competition is back for our 3rd annual competition.
Expanding on the last 2 years success, we are adding two additional teams this year for a total of 12.
Event hours for sampling are from 1pm 5pm Saturday April 15th
There are 2 tickets available, one for guests to sample the BBQ ($10) and one for Teams ($100) Open the ticket link to determine which one is correct for you.
Patrons:
This is a competition to see who can cook up the best BBQ pork butt on a regular household grill or smoker and you get to enjoy a sample of each one.
For only $10 per person, you get to sample each and every BBQ teams offering while enjoying some great music on the Phenix City Riverwalk.
Competitors: Bring your old charcoal grill, wood pellet grills, Green egg, backyard smokers and gas grills and lets find out which one of you cooks up the best butts in the area. There are prizes for 1st thru 3rd places for Pork butt, along with a peoples choice prize. These are first come first serve team reservations and are non-refundable.

2nd overall - $350
3rd overall - $100

All entry fees are returned as winners purse.
Rules:
No competition rigs, tow behinds or pits this year. all the equipment must be just a regular old grill or smoker.
Teams are expected to provide and cook a minimum of 8 average sized (6 to 8 lb) Boston butts to serve to up to 200 guests and for the competition. Guest portions should be ready to serve by 1pm on Saturday afternoon in 2oz sample containers provided by the venue. Forks, Napkins and competition boxes are also provided by the venue.
Scoring will be based on Appearance, Taste and Execution, so it should taste, look and have the consistency of pulled, chopped or sliced BBQ pork in the competition boxes.
Each team in responsible for turning in 1 box each (provided by us) with only green leafy lettuce or kale underneath the BBQ. No BBQ sauce pooling in box is allowed. You can cook with sauce by basting etc., but its not allowed to be poured over the BBQ once boxed.
Competition turn in time is promptly at 5pm Saturday April 15th.
All BBQ must be cooked on site
Setup of each teams randomly picked spot can be as early as 3am Saturday morning. The venue picks the spots and layout based on a first come first serve basis. Each team is dedicated a 10ft x 12ft spot marked in advance. Bathrooms will be open for the competitors during the night. Campers (other than vans or truck mounted shells or campers is not allowed).
Teams must have someone at each spot around the clock, at no time can a teams area be unattended while cooking or grills are hot. Failure to meet this requirement will lead to disqualification.
Team principles are responsible for the behavior of each team member and any personal guests attending the event.
Everyone should act in a safe, responsible manner at all times, failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL ALLOWED (you can't buy it somewhere else and bring it in) Pub will open at 11am Saturday morning.. Anyone violating this rule will be disqualified immediately as a team.
